Are you looking for an installer who is dedicated to the needs of the residential client?

I began my skilled trades career as an Art Preparator at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), performing every aspect of installing treasured pieces with care and precision. But your home is not the same as a museum. The spaces are obviously very different — for example, the art in museums doesn’t compete for wall space with things like windows, sofas, chairs, desks, headboards, dressers, and flat-screen tv’s. Just as important: the wall construction in museums is very different from that in homes. After leaving LACMA I gained extensive experience in carpentry and remodeling, while continuing to work in the art world (and do other things). It eventually became apparent that my odd combination of skills had accidentally combined into a rather singular expertise — superior art installation in homes. For years now, that is all I have done, and I am today one of the most seasoned private art installers working in the Los Angeles area.

Does your art deserve handling and treatment by someone who is a true specialist?

Hanging art or other valuable or important items is a specialty in which your installer has to know: how to “run a wall”, or properly align and space a group of pieces; whether a piece is properly prepared to be hung or installed, and what to do if it isn’t; how to protect pieces from damage during the installation process; when it’s necessary to find wall studs, and when it’s not; how to hang pieces on difficult surfaces such as concrete, brick, or tile; and so many other things both predictable and unforeseen.

Besides my many years of experience at all of the above, I come prepared with a wide assortment of professional hanging hardware including several sizes and varieties of D-rings, hooks, hangers, braided wire, toggle bolts, T-screws, other specialty screws, wall anchors, and more. (The uppermost photo on this page shows only some of the hardware and supplies I carry on my truck.) Because of this, about 95% of the time I am able to complete exactly what you want me to during our first meeting.

Do you want an installer who demands of himself excellence and professionalism EVERY time?

Like you, I know it can be very frustrating to hire a craftsperson or tradesperson who sounded promising but didn’t deliver what you expected. Long ago I thoroughly examined the qualities that disappointed me in many of the people I had hired to do work in my own homes. I realized — and believe even more strongly now — that there are only three things I have to do to succeed as an art installer:

1) Keep my promises–always. That means show up within the time frame I’ve agreed upon with my client, get right to work, and finish what I say I’m going to finish.

2) Do excellent work–always. That means keep my skills sharp. Don’t take on something I’m not qualified to do. Be focused and alert. Use the best tools and methods.

3) Be friendly and professional–always. To be blunt, this is the easiest of all for me. I know how I want to be treated by people to whom I pay money, so that’s how I treat my clients. It also helps that I thoroughly enjoy what I do, which means I automatically go into each job with a good attitude. How could I be grumpy? I get to work with beautiful things, meet interesting people, and help them fulfill their vision of how they want their homes to look.
